Ward 1 - Drew Sharkey

Commissioner Drew Sharkey was sworn-in to office on January 8, 2008. Commissioner Sharkey serves as chair of the Public Works Committee and is the past chair of Public Affairs and Public Safety.

Mr. Sharkey was elected by his peer commissioners in Montgomery County to the position of president of the Montgomery County Association of Township Commissioners in 2013, after serving as vice president for four years. In 2015, the Montgomery County and Delaware County township commissioners elected him president of the Eastern Association of Township Commissioners. This culminated in 2015 with Mr. Sharkey's election as president of Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners. These organizations set legislative goals, advocate for them in Harrisburg and run training events for municipal officials.

In 2016, Governor Tom Wolf awarded Commissioner Sharkey the Governor's Award for Excellence in Local Government. in 2017, Governor Wolf appointed the commissioner to the Governor's Commission on Local Government.

Commissioner Sharkey is a lifelong resident of Glenside and Cheltenham Township. He worked numerous jobs to help fund his education, including coaching the Glenside Dolphins and Cheltenham High School swimming teams. He earned a Bachelors’ Degree from Penn State University, a Masters in Public Administration from Villanova University and his law degree from the Widener University School of Law. He is a licensed attorney and practices law in Pennsylvania.

Prior to his election, Mr. Sharkey was a member of the Cheltenham Economic Development Task Force, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Committee, and worked on the Township Main Street program, chairing the Organization and Development Committee. He worked with numerous community members to run the Glenside Street Fair, WinterFest, Food Truck Festival and other activities. Currently, Commissioner Sharkey continues his community service by serving on the Glenside Fire Company Board, the Custis Woods- Twickenham Civic Association and the Downtown Glenside Community Partnership boards, and the Penn State Alumni Admissions Council. Commissioner Sharkey is a member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, located in Glenside.
