July 15, 2020 Update: Governor Wolf announced new statewide COVID-19 restrictions to go into effect Thursday, July 16, 2020.
"During the past week, we have seen an unsettling climb in new COVID-19
cases. COVID-19 cases peaked in Pennsylvania on April 9 with nearly
2,000 new cases. If we don’t act now, medical experts are projecting
that this new surge in cases could soon eclipse the peak in April.
"These COVID-19 restrictions worked during the first wave in the spring, and they will work again if we all do our part. Thank you to every Pennsylvanian for your continued patience and support."
For more details, visit the Governor's July 15, 2020 Press Release. This latest order, joins the Governor's order for Pennsylvanians to wear masks continuously in public when they cannot social distance.
On June 26, 2020, Cheltenham Township and all communities in Montgomery County began operating under the Green Phase of Governor Wolf's Phased Reopening of Pennsylvania following the novel coronavirus COVID-19 extended Stay-At-Home Order that began on March 19, 2020. Businesses may reopen in accordance with the guidance outlined in the Governor's Reopening Plan and Montgomery County's Yellow Phase Reopening Guidance.
While Governor Wolf ordered the closure of all non-life-sustaining businesses in Pennsylvania to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Cheltenham Township will remain in operation to the fullest extent possible while implementing mitigation measures to protect and support its employees and the public.
Cheltenham Township is committed to continuing to provide essential, life-sustaining services, such as Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Service and Refuse Collection, among others to the community during this difficult time. Our Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services are fully staffed and operational as usual. For true emergencies, dial 911. The Police Department's non-emergency phone number is (215) 885-1600. Please do not call 911 to inquire about testing for COVID-19. Contact your healthcare provider for instructions and guidance.
The Police Department, Tax Office and Public Works Building are open to the public on a limited basis, please see the June 25, 2020 Cheltenham Township Green Phase Operational Updates document for more details on Township operations. Non-essential support services will continue to be provided in limited capacity for the duration of any restrictions.
For information about how individual departments are impacted by the pandemic, please visit the department pages frequently, as they will be updated a new information is received.
Please note that all
persons utilizing Township parks and recreation facilities must
maintain appropriate physical distances of at least six feet and
practice proper hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In
addition, any persons permitted to enter Township building facilities
shall also wear face masks, maintain social distancing and practice
proper hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Please
stay safe and remain diligent in practicing proper pandemic safety
techniques so we can continue to remain open and moving forward in a
positive direction. Thank you for your continued patience and
cooperation.
