AARP Smart Driver Course -Application & Flyer
Co-ed * Ages 55 & Older * 2 Days * $20 ($15 with valid AARP membership) Fee * Limit 20
Save 5% on your auto insurance (check with your insurance provider) after completing this two-day class sponsored by AARP. Call the La Mott Community Center at 215-635-3255 for the registration form. This class will be held at the La Mott Community Center located at 7420 Sycamore Avenue in La Mott on Tuesday, October 24th and 31st 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

This four hour course is a refresher course open to all drivers 55+ who have taken a 8 hour driver safety course at any location sponsored by any organization, and who have a valid drivers license. The materials used are the same as those used for the 8 hour AARP SMART DRIVER course, but the depth of discussion is greatly reduced. Call the La Mott Community Center at 215-635-3255 for the registration form. This class will be held at the La Mott Community Center located at 7420 Sycamore Avenue in La Mott on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.


Arbor Day 2019

Cheltenham Township will commemorate its 31st Annual Arbor Day Celebration at 10:00AM on Friday, April 26th at Carroll Brooke Park in Glenside. The Township expects to receive its 21st consecutive Tree City USA Award  for its continued progress in community forestry activities.

African-American History Celebrations

24th Annual Family Bingo and Ice Cream Social
Cheltenham residents can enjoy family-oriented bingo followed by ice cream sundaes at the Rowland Community Center on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 6:30PM. Admission is $5 per person.  This event is limited to 100 participants. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The Rowland Community Center is located at Myrtle and Elm Avenues in Cheltenham.  For more information on the event, which is sponsored by the Cheltenham Township Parks and Recreation Department, call 215-379-2233.


Fishing Derby   - Saturday, July 7, 2018 - 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon 
Children can test their skill and luck at the 61st Annual Fishing Derby at Kleinheinz Pond on Tookany Creek Parkway between Central Avenue and Beryl Road in Cheltenham. The derby, which is open to boys and girls up to age 15, will run from 9 a.m. to noon.  A $3 entrance fee entitles participants to the use of a pole and line, one hot dog, one soda and a chance to win great prizes.  Participants must bring their own bait.  Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. The fishing derby is presented by the Cheltenham/Rockledge Rotary Club in cooperation with the Cheltenham Township Parks and Recreation Department. There is no rain date for this event. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., come early to get the best spot around the pond!

68th Annual Government Day
Cheltenham Township invites area students ages 6 to 14 to learn about municipal operations on Friday, February 15, 2019. Participants will tour police, ambulance and public works facilities as well as district courts and administrative offices to get a first-hand look at local government. Halloween Party 2018
Co-ed * All Ages & Families * $5 Fee per Child Ages 2 & Older (Parents are free)
Join us if you dare in ghoulish games, a costume contest, tricks and treats, on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the La Mott Community Center, located at 7420 Sycamore Avenue in La Mott.  The party will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Call 215-635-3255 by October 19th to register.


Hayride and Bonfire 2018
Welcome the onset of chilly weather by enjoying a hayride down to a bonfire to listen to music or sing along on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. This event in beautiful Curtis Arboretum, located at Church Road and Greenwood Avenue in Wyncote, costs $5 per person, but children 2 & younger are free. Hot chocolate, cider and other light refreshments are included. Raindate: Friday, November 16, 2018.

Maple Sugar Festival  - There will be no Festival in 2018
Maple Trees are tapped as winter ends and the first signs of spring appear. Various maple products are made from the sap, including syrup, maple sugar, maple candy, and maple cream. You are cordially invited to observe and participate in the process of making syrup and learn a brief history of maple sugaring, what is in the sap, the difference between sap and resin, how to choose a tree to tap, how the actual tapping is done, and what is done to the sap to make syrup. There will be a live wood cutting demonstration as well as lessons about tree cookies, our watershed and other activities. Everyone will have a taste of syrup on a waffle and hot chocolate.

Pre-registration is being taken at either the Rowland Community Center or the La Mott Community Center. Fee is $5.00 per person. Cash payments only! **Dress warmly and wear boots; it will be cold or muddy.**


Your instructor will be Environmental Educator Judith Gratz, who has been making maple syrup for 30 years.

During Sundays in the Spring and Fall Tookany Creek Parkway is closed to motor vehicles - weather permitting - so that cyclists, in-line skaters, joggers, walkers and others can enjoy the roadway free from traffic. Vehicles are diverted from Tookany Creek Parkway between Central Avenue and Beryl Road from 1PM to 4PM. Through traffic is allowed on Beryl Road. Cheltenham Township's Auxiliary Police, a volunteer group trained in traffic and crowd control, supervises the street closings.

Recreational swim and children's lessons at the Cheltenham High School Pool    
Cheltenham Township residents may enjoy evening recreational swims at the Cheltenham High School pool two nights a week during the fall and winter/spring season. The pool, located at Rices Mill Road and Carlton Avenue in Wyncote, will be open on Wednesdays from 7:45PM to 9:45PM and Fridays from 7:00PM to 9:45PM beginning October 6, 2017. Daily fees are $4 for adults or $3 for youths under age 18, college students up to age 23 and seniors age 62 and over.  Seasonal tags may be purchased at the pool for $30 for adults or $20 for youths, college students or seniors.  CASH ONLY. Swimmers must supply their own towels, caps and bathing suits.  Lockers are available, but participants must supply their own locks.  The township is not responsible for personal items in the locker room.
