NEW DEADLINE for Sustainability Awards and its Sustainable Spaces Showcase: Sept. 15
The Cheltenham Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) brings a spotlight to sustainable practices in the Township in two ways - read more below. Deadline for each is now September 15.
Sustainable Cheltenham Awards: Sustainable Cheltenham unites Township residents, businesses, institutions and other stakeholders behind a shared vision for a more resilient and environmentally active community. Each year, the Cheltenham Township Environmental Advisory
Council (EAC) recognizes community members that contribute to this vision. Nominate
yourself, someone else, a business or organization for a Sustainable Cheltenham
Award. Criteria, past winners, and submission form can be found here. Winners will be recognized at Arts in the Park at High School Park October 2.
Sustainable Spaces Showcase: In past years, the EAC ran this initiative as a contest, but in an effort to be more inclusive and support all kinds and sizes of residential sustainable spaces, it is now a showcase. Whether your “yard” is an acre or a window box, you can make your outdoor space more sustainable. Maybe you collect rainwater, compost, and minimize use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Or maybe your window box entices butterflies and other pollinators with native plants. Maybe you plant native trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses to provide food and habitat for beneficial insects and birds. Or maybe you grow vegetables or herbs organically. Even something as simple as using an electric or manual lawnmower makes a difference. Submission information for Sustainable Spaces Showcase here.
