PECO Equipment Replacement Wistar Dr. beginning 2/2
Riggs Distler, a qualified PECO contractor, will be replacing the existing natural gas equipment on Wistar Dr. Work is expected to begin February 2, 2023 between Washington Ln and Thornberry Rd, and working hours will be Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm, with expected completion in February 2023.  Work may occur in roadways, on sidewalks, and potentially on property; affected residents have been notified. If you have any questions about this work and/or would like to provide any supplemental information, please call PECO Work Inquiries (610) 832-6420 or email [email protected]

Final PECO Road Restoration in Cheltenham Village
Kehoe Construction will be performing trench restoration beginning January 27, weather permitting, on the following roads:

  • Ashbourne Rd from Central Ave to Waltham Rd.
  • Oak Hill Dr from Ashbourne Rd. to the end
  • Waltham Rd from Ashbourne to ~100ft in
  • Rowland Ave from Ashbourne to ~100ft in
  • Foster Rd from Ashbourne to ~100ft in

Working hours will be 7am-4pm and should take approximately one week to complete.  Residents are advised to abide by the temporary 'no parking' signs in place until completion.

PECO Pole Replacement on Woodlawn Ave starting 1/19
Infrasource, a PECO subcontractor, will be replacing poles on Woodlawn Ave between Ashbourne Rd and Surrey Rd beginning January 19.  The work is expected to take 3 days.  Wright Traffic Control (WTC) will be handling closures/detours on Woodlawn Ave.

Aqua Night Work Expected 1/23-24 at Old Soldiers Rd & Ryers Ave
In order to perform necessary infrastructure repairs at the intersection of Old Soldier Rd and Ryers Ave, Aqua has tentatively scheduled night work starting Monday, 1/23 at 7:00pm and ending Tuesday, 1/24 at 7:00am (weather permitting). Due to the location, Old Soldiers Rd will be closed to traffic at Woodland, Ryers, and Central Avenues.  Ashbourne Rd will be closed at Central Ave and Tookany Creek Parkway. Emergency vehicles will have access when needed.

PECO Work on Curtis Dr. began 1/11
This notice was put out in December, but start date of the project was delayed from 1/3 to 1/11.  Riggs Distler, a qualified PECO contractor, will be working in the area of Curtis Dr. between Arboretum and Hedgerow Ln.  Work will take place Monday-Friday from 7am-3pm, with expected completion in April 2023.  Work may occur in roadways, as well as on sidewalks, and potentially on property. Updated Timeline for Chelten Hills Dr. Sinkhole Repair
Seravalli Contractors, Inc. has completed underground work and replacement of the culvert floor. Workers are currently drilling beams into the ground so that shoring can be installed, allowing for the area to be excavated to replace the culvert wall. The drilling of the beams is expected to be completed midweek the week of January 9, and excavation will begin shortly afterwards. Excavation is expected to take approximately 2-3 weeks, at which point the damaged culvert wall can be removed, and the contractor can form and pour a new wall. The new wall will have to cure for ten days before the excavated area can be filled in. Public Works is anticipating that the work will be completed sometime in mid-March.

PECO Work on Curtis Dr. beginning 1/3

PECO Road Restoration in Cheltenham Village
Kehoe Construction will be finishing up Central Ave restorations into early next week.  They will be starting on Jefferson Ave on Monday morning before they are able to begin on Central at 9am.  After Central and Jefferson are complete, they will be moving on to Myrtle Ave from Central to Laurel. Expected completion for all base repairs is 12/21 afternoon or 12/22 morning.  Final milling and paving will take place early 2023, and will be weather-dependent.

PECO Road Restoration on Central Ave
Kehoe Construction will began base repair on Central Ave starting Monday, December 12, weather-permitting.  One week is estimated for completion.

November 28, 2022
PECO Work on Ryers Ave
Kehoe Construction, a qualified PECO contractor, will continue base repair on Ryers Ave from Beecher Ave to Old Soldiers Rd starting Monday, November 28.  After completion, they will proceed with mill and overlay on Ryers Ave.  Kehoe will also be completing trench restoration on E. Laurel Ave, from the no outlet to Ryers Ave.  Finally, Kehoe is continuing saw cutting on Central Ave and will only close Central on a block by block basis.

Aqua Work on Glenside Ave
Giuliani and Sons Paving Contractors, an AQUA subcontractor, will be performing final milling and paving of Glenside Avenue between Glenview Road and North Avenue Wednesday November 30, through Friday December 2, weather-permitting. It may be necessary to close a portion of Glenside Avenue for this work and the detour route set up during the water main construction this summer will be utilized using Greenwood Avenue, Church Road and Rices Mill Road. Residents will have access to their properties but may have to access them from a different direction at times.

PECO Work on Ryers Ave
Kehoe Construction, a qualified PECO contractor, will be returning to Ryers Avenue on Wednesday, November 23 to complete the base repair.  There will be no work on Thanksgiving, but crews will be back on Friday, November 25 to start the milling on Ryers Ave.

November 10, 2022
PECO Work in Cheltenham Village and Sinkhole Update
Utility Line Services has completed their work in Cheltenham Village.  Final road restoration by Kehoe Construction is scheduled to begin the week of November 21, weather pending.  Some trench restoration could begin late next week on Cnetral Ave.  Ashbourne Rd from Central to Waltham and Oak Hill Dr are still under construction and have not yet been submitted for restoration.

Seravalli Construction will be starting early next week with work on the culvert and sinkhole repair on Chelten Hills Drive.  They will be starting on Widener Rd at Rock Park. 

PECO to Begin Work on Glenside Ave 10/24
PECO and Miller Contractors will begin a project Monday, October 24 to replace faulty wiring underground.  Work will begin on Glenside Ave near the post office and continue to the intersection of Greenwood Ave.  Work hours will be 7:30am-3:30pm with a lane restriction.  Traffic will be able to get to Greenwood Ave from Church Rd and follow current detour.  Ongoing Aqua work between Greenwood and Rices Mill should be complete (except final paving) by the time PECO gets to Greenwood Ave.

Final PECO Restoration in East Cheltenham
Kehoe Construction, a qualified PECO contractor, as part of the PECO gas main replacement program, will be performing paving restoration in East Cheltenham starting Tuesday, October 18.  Affected roads:

- Ryers Ave from Beecher to Old Soldiers Rd

- Myrtle Ave from Ryers Ave to the end

- E. Laurel Ave from Ryers Ave to Hasbrook Ave

- Beecher Ave from Grove Ave to W. Laurel Ave

Work will start on Ryers.  Working hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm, and should take approximately 4-5 days, weather permitting.  Please abide by the temporary no parking signs posted.  Residents, buses, and deliveries will still have access to the streets.

Seravalli Contractors Ground Core Samples 9/3 at Sinkhole
Engineers from Seravalli Contractors will be performing ground core samples in the area of the Chelten Hills sinkhole on Saturday, September 3 at 8:00am.

PECO Electric Cable Replacement Work September through January
As part of PECO's Reliability & Resiliency Plan and infrastructure investments, PECO crews and qualified PECO contractors will be replacing and upgrading electric infrastructure around the township.  Work is expected to begin in early September, and will occur on Cedar Lane, Cheltenham Avenue, Euston Road, Keenan Street, Old York Road, and Penrose Avenue.  Work may require temporary disruption of service, and affected residents will be notified by PECO. The project is expected to be completed by January 2023.  

 

May 9, 2022
Closure of Chelten Hills Dr Section due to Sinkhole
Due to a sizable sinkhole, Chelten Hills Dr is closed to vehicles and pedestrians between Church Rd and Rodgers Rd until further notice.

PECO Work on Myrtle and Central Aves starting 5/16
Utility Line Services, a qualified PECO contractor, as part of their ongoing equipment replacement, will begin work on Myrtle Ave between Laurel and Central Aves and Central Ave from Franklin Ave to Tookany Creek Parkway the week of May 16. The project may occur in roadways as well as on sidewalks and potentially on property - affected residents have been notified. Work will take place Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00am-3:00pm, and anticipated completion of the project is one month. April 11, 2022

PECO Equipment Work Updates
Utility Line Services is completing the PECO gas main installation on Jefferson Ave from Laurel to Central. That crew will then move on to Central Ave between Cottman and Beecher.  The closure on Central has an anticipated start date of April 25.  Other crews with this contractor are servicing the portions recently installed and gassed up on Ryers, Myrtle, Beecher, and Laurel.

On April 22, Henkels and McCoy expects to begin PECO equipment replacement on the following locations:
- Old York Rd from Spring Ave to Stratford Ave
- Develon Rd from Old York Rd to Beech Ave
- Stetson Rd from Old York Rd to the end
- Academy Ln from Old York Rd to the end
- Juniper Ave from Old York Rd to Manchester Rd
- Melrose Ave from Old York Rd to Manchester Rd
- Manchester Rd from Melrose Ave to the end
