November 23, 2021 Nighttime PennDOT Roadway Reconstruction Limekiln Pike Bridge 11/29-12/2
Starting at on Sunday night November 28, through Thursday, December 2, PennDOT will be completing roadway reconstruction work with intermittent single lane closures on the Limekiln Pike Bridge. Work will be conducted between the hours of 9:00pm to 6:00am.

PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work Week of 11/22
Henkels & McCoy, a PECO contractor, will continue work to replace gas mains in the following areas for the next two weeks:
  • Mountain Ave from Valley Rd to Stratford Ave.
  •  Sharpless Rd from Ansley Ave to Mountain Ave
  • Ansley Ave from Old York Rd to Sharpless Rd
  •  Valley Rd from Mountain Ave to Coventry Ave
  • Coventry Ave from Valley Rd to Asbury Ave
  • Asbury Ave to the end of Coventry Ave

Work will be completed from 9:00am-3:00pm, not including Thanksgiving or Friday, 11/26.  The project may occur on roadways, sidewalks, or potential on private property, with customers notified ahead of time. For more information, please contact David Spatichia: 215-341-8903.

November 9, 2021 Limekiln Pike Bridge Closure 11/13-14 Starting at 3:00pm on Saturday, 11/13 through 8:00am Sunday, 11/14, the Limekiln Pike Bridge near Mt. Carmel Ave will be closed for Aqua Bridge Removal.

Streetlight Conduit repairs at Mountain Ave and Valley Rd beginning 11/1
Starting on Monday, November 1, contractors will be working at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Valley Road to repair underground conduits and wiring for the traffic signals. Motorists should expect delays and intermittent lane closures while this work is underway. If you have any questions or concerns, call the Public Works office at 215-635-4600 and ask for Joe Stuckert, ext. 346.
October 26, 2021 Keswick Ave Milling & Paving Work Expected to Start 10/29
(Originally posted 10/22 with a tentative start date of 10/27) Glasgow Inc. will begin milling and paving Keswick Avenue from the Cheltenham Township border with Abington Township to the dead end of the road at the Glenside Library beginning on October 29, 2021 and continuing through early November. No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday. It will be necessary for cars to be removed from the street between 7am and 5pm during working hours. Thank you.
October 22, 2021 Waverly Rd. at Easton Rd. to Close Monday 10/25 for Realignment As part of the Wawa development project, the closure and detour of Waverly Road will be implemented starting Monday, October 25, and lasting approximately 45 days, for work within Waverly and the further relocation of the intersection.  View detour here.
October 13, 2021 Work Begins Today on Township-wide Road Re-striping Township-wide line striping on the roads begins this morning. If you see our guys out there, please be careful not to drive over the lines, to give them the chance to dry - Thank you!

Detour Plan for Waverly Road Closure Beginning October 25
The closure and detour of Waverly Road for the realignment work (part of the Wawa development at Easton and Waverly Rds) will be implemented October 25. The detour is anticipated to be in effect for approximately 45 days.  View detour here.

PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work Beginning 10/4
General Asphalt Paving Co. of Philadelphia, a PECO contractor, will begin work to replace existing natural gas equipment on Monday, October 4 in the area of Yew Rd between Township Line Road and Krewson Lane.  Work will take place between 7:30am and 4:30pm, and anticipated time for completion is 4 weeks.  As part of the work, PECO or a PECO contractor will need to turn off natural gas service for a short period (4-8 hours) and then connect to the new line.  PECO will also be relocating indoor natural gas meters to the exterior of the home - indoor work will not be performed without customer consent; to schedule an appointment, contact Joe Meehan of GAP at 267-688-2170.

Additional Closures Scheduled for Limekiln Pike Bridge
As part of the ongoing construction project of the Limekiln Pike Bridge over SEPTA at Mt. Carmel Avenue, Neshaminy Constructors will need to conduct additional full road/bridge closures in the next 2 months. Detour will be provided.
During the week of 10/18, the bridge will be closed overnight from 9:00pm through 6:00am for the final asphalt milling and overlay of the project, which will likely take 2 nights. The bridge will also be closed from approximately 3:00pm on Saturday 11/13 to 8:00am Sunday 11/14 to remove the existing steel AQUA water bridge on the west side of the new bridge.

The weekend closure to remove the AQUA bridge removal will be the last time we will need to close the road/bridge.

Aqua Main Replacement Work Scheduled for the Wawa Project
Water main relocation work for the Wawa development at Easton and Waverly Roads will be taking place now through September 17. This work will be completed with temporary daily partial lane closures on Easton Road with manned traffic control. The closure and detour of Waverly Road will not be implemented until after the Labor Day weekend for the work within Waverly and the further relocation of the intersection.  View detour here.

23 – Possibly use vac truck to locate and get depths on existing utilities.
24– Saw-cut and pre-dig for wet tap on north side
25 – Aqua install 16x16 wet tap on north side
26 – Wexcon lay 16” pipe across southbound lane of Easton Rd.

30 – Saw-cut and pre-dig for double wet tap on south side
31 – Aqua install 16x12 and 16x16 wet taps on south side

2 – Connect 12” pipe between wet taps on Easton Rd.
3 - Install 16” pipe across Waverly on south side

Date Change for Closure: Limekiln Pike Bridge over SEPTA

This state bridge is located near the intersection of Limekiln Pike and Mt. Carmel Avenue.  PennDOT is currently working on replacing the bridge superstructure, and two-way traffic on the bridge is typically being maintained during this project.  However, in order to facilitate the concrete pour of the Stage 2 bridge deck, PennDOT is allowing the contractor to institute an overnight full bridge closure with detour commencing (weather permitting) on Thursday, August 26th at 9PM and ending on Friday, August 27th at 5AM.  After that time two-way traffic flow will be reestablished on the bridge for the continuing reconstruction project.

There may be a couple of additional nightly detours necessary for this project.  A specific notification will be issued in advance of any such bridge closure.  The project is currently scheduled to be completed before Thanksgiving Day 2021.

2021 Milling & Paving Locations and Schedule

Work on Cheltenham Township’s 2021 Road Milling and Resurfacing Project is slated to begin on August 3rd and is anticipated to be completed by August 20th.  This timetable is weather dependent and may change as the project proceeds.  The list of street locations included in the project can be viewed 
here.  Glasgow Inc. is the contractor for the project and their current schedule by street location can be viewed here.  Work will be performed weekdays between 7:30AM and 4:00PM.  The Contractor shall post 'No Parking' signs in all parking areas within work zones at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance of performing roadway work in those areas. The Contractor shall also provide a hand-delivered notice to all affected abutting property owners at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance of any roadway work.

Limekiln Pike Bridge over SEPTA

This state bridge is located near the intersection of Limekiln Pike and Mt. Carmel Avenue.  PennDOT is currently working on replacing the bridge superstructure, and two-way traffic on the bridge is typically being maintained during this project.  However, in order to facilitate the erection of the stage 2 bridge beams and the removal of an existing Aqua pipeline, PennDOT is allowing the contractor to institute a full bridge closure with detour commencing on Friday, July 30 at 12:00 Noon and continuing through Monday, August 2 until 5AM.  After that time two-way traffic flow will be reestablished on the bridge for the continuing reconstruction project.

This is the last full bridge weekend closure anticipated during the project.  There may be some nightly detours to pour the bridge deck and pave the roadway.  A specific notification will be issued in advance of any such closure.  The project is currently scheduled to be completed before Thanksgiving Day 2021.

Heacock Lane Closure 7/27
Heacock Lane will be closed tomorrow, July 27 between 8:00am and 7:00pm for tree removal. Barricades will be placed at Glenside Avenue and Stonehouse Lane. Residents of this block will be able to access driveways from either side. Refuse and recycling will be picked up ahead of the closure.

Postponed: Limekiln Pike Bridge Full Closure

This state bridge is located near the intersection of Limekiln Pike and Mt. Carmel Avenue.  PennDOT is currently working on replacing the bridge superstructure, and two-way traffic on the bridge is typically being maintained during this project. However, in order to facilitate the erection of the stage 2 bridge beams and the removal of an existing Aqua pipeline, PennDOT is allowing the contractor to institute a full bridge closure.  BECAUSE OF THE POWERFUL STORM ON JULY 21, the full closure originally scheduled for 7/23-7/26 will now be POSTPONED to a date not yet determined. After that time two-way traffic flow will be reestablished on the bridge for the continuing reconstruction project.

PECO Trench Restoration, Milling/Paving July 22-23 Chandler & Hillcrest
As part of the PECO Energy gas main replacement project, Kehoe Construction, Inc. will be performing trench restoration and final roadway milling/paving in the area of Chandler Road and Hillcrest Road on July 22nd & 23rd (weather permitting).  Work will take place between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  The roadway will typically be kept open to one lane of traffic in both directions with traffic control flaggers, but a temporary closure may be required at certain times.  Trash/recycling collection, mail/package delivery, and residents' access to their homes will be kept available by the contractor.  Questions regarding this project can be directed to the Kehoe project manager, Steve Witt, at 484-576-7154.

July 7, 2021
Jenkintown Rd Closed Between Meade and Church Roads
As of 4:00pm, Jenkintown Road has been closed off due to a tree limb is suspended over the road.  A tree contractor has been notified and will come out to remove the limb, which presents a hazard of falling into the roadway.  The road will be reopened at that time. First responders should exercise extreme caution in the area.

July 2, 2021

Tookany Creek Parkway and Trail to be CLOSED JULY 6
On Tuesday, July 6, there will be a road closure from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Tookany Creek Parkway for the removal of (3) dead and hazardous trees. This work will take place in the front of the Boy Scout Cabin on the North side of Tookany Creek Parkway between Kleinheinz Pond  and Central Ave.

The walking trail will  be closed off only in the area where the work is being done to keep pedestrian safety at a high priority. The road will be closed to all traffic including emergency vehicles during this time.
