From the Desk of the Township Manager February 5, 2021Good afternoon everyone! 

I have had the opportunity to review the most recent COVID-19 mandates, recommendations and advisories from the Governor’s office and the CDC regarding public health and safety.  As you know, we have been asking our Township Building staff to either work from home virtually, come into the office to pick up items to take home to work on, or work in the office with social distancing, mask wearing and separation from other staff members.  To date, these modified operations have worked well, due primarily to the hard work and efforts of our staff.  Police and Public Works continue to perform their work as scheduled with modifications within the Public Works scheduling of staff and operations.  Sanitizing of buildings and vehicles continue as previously stated in correspondence.  

With the Township's current modified plan set to expire on Monday, February 8, it was brought up for discussion at the February 3 meeting of the Public Works Committee, and the decision was made to extend this modified operational schedule through May 31, 2021.  As the COVID numbers continue to be a concern throughout the Commonwealth, I believe we should continue this modified schedule through the spring.   

As part of continuing the modified operational schedule, we are letting the Cheltenham community, as well as the Cheltenham Tax Office, Cheltenham Library, the various Township Fire Companies and the Cheltenham Township School District, know of this extension of our modified operational plan through May 31, 2021.  For the Township building, we will deploy the previously used platoon and/or split schedule for staff to maintain the continuity of service while keeping our staff and community as safe as possible.    

During this pandemic, I am so proud of our Township staff and their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the Cheltenham community!  It is why we are the best community in Montgomery County and the best place to live, work, play and do business!

A recent occurrence of positive COVID-19 cases among Township staff led our leadership and Emergency Management Agency to implement the following decisions out of an abundance of caution:

  • The Township Administration Building and Tax Office staff are working remotely, answering emails and voicemails of their office phones, and doing inspections.  This situation will be re-evaluated on November 30.
  • Our public works and police departments are out in the Cheltenham neighborhoods providing their usual excellent service to our residents, schools, and businesses.
  • Drop-offs of trash, recycling, and bulk furniture to the Public Works Yard will only be available on Saturdays (10:00-2:00).  The Yard will now be open 11/28 due to this decision, though the Township calendar had marked it for holiday closing. Days/hours for the Yard will be re-evaluated November 30 as well. The Waverly Road Compost Facility hours have been reduced to a 2:00pm closing time.

Our services to residents have had a mild impact, but our staff is still working to provide service to the community! We would like to thank you, our community, for your understanding during these challenging times for the Cheltenham community, as we work to keep both the community and our staff safe and healthy.
We also thank our Board of Commissioners for their leadership and guidance navigating us through
this pandemic. We will come out better and stronger as a community when it is all over and done!
