Maintain Social Distance When Outside with Pets

A friendly reminder to keep dogs on leashes and follow social distance guidelines when outdoors with pets.

Maintain Social Distance When Outside with Pets

During a pandemic under a statewide Stay-at-Home Order; walking around the neighborhood, in parks or trails is the only exercise that is permissible outside the home. Needless to say more people than ever are walking the dog to get fresh air and help alleviate feeling cooped-up. With more dogs and people outdoors it is essential that pet owners exercise extra care to ensure they are maintaining social distancing requirements for both themselves and their pets. Observation of the following pet etiquette is especially important during the pandemic:

  • Keep your pet on a leash at all times when off your private property.
  • Pets must be kept on leashes at all times when on Township property, with the exception of the Curtis Arboretum Dog Park (which is closed during the pandemic).
  • Keep pets off all playing fields, sports courts and playgrounds
  • Keep pets close and remember pets must observe social distancing requirements. It is the pet owner's responsibility to ensure there is at least 6 feet of space between their pet and other pets and people.
  • Pets should not be permitted to greet each other or other people when out in public.
  • Clean up and properly dispose of all pet waste.

Please continue to enjoy the outdoors and the fresh air outside the home with your pets, but  please remember to adhere to social distance guidelines for the health of our entire community.
