The Board of Commissioners of Cheltenham Township Honors Firefighters Morton Levy and Joseph Stuckert Service

Elkins Park, PA – At their February 19th meeting, the Board of Commissioners presented resolutions honoring Morton Levy for more than 50 years of service between Ogontz and Elkins Park Fire Companies and recognizing Joseph Stuckert upon his retirement as chief of Glenside Fire Company. Two fire chiefs and three deputy fire chiefs were also sworn in at the meeting.

The Board of Commissioners honored Morton “Mort” Levy with a resolution for his more than 50 years of service. Levy joined the Ogontz Fire Company in September of 1969, and during his 34 years of service with the company held numerous positions, including Crew Secretary, Trustee and chief engineer. Levy joined the Elkins Park Fire Company in May of 2004. At Elkins Park Fire Company, Levy served as the President, and currently serves as chief engineer. Levy also served on several apparatus committees including the committee that designed the first Quint in Cheltenham. We honor Levy’s great commitment of over 50 years to Cheltenham Townshipand are grateful for his hard work and devotion to our community.

The Board of Commissioners honored Joe Stuckert on his retirement as Fire Chief from Glenside Fire Company and Executive Secretary of the Cheltenham Township Fire Board after 15 years of service.  Stuckert joined the Glenside Fire Company in 1994, and during his 26 years of service with the company held numerous positions, including Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. Stuckert’s loyalty to and leadership in Cheltenham Township will be remembered fondly as he improved safety for the Glenside Fire Company and the residents of Cheltenham.

The Magisterial District Judge Elizabeth A. McHugh-Casey swore in the following five fire chiefs: J.P. McHugh, chief, Glenside Fire Company; Brian Levy, chief, Elkins Park Fire Company; William Ratzke, deputy chief, Elkins Park Fire Company; Martin Smith, assistant chief, Elkins Park Fire Company, and Matthew Scholly, assistant chief, Glenside Fire Company.
