ELKINS PARK, PA On Friday, February 14th students in Cheltenham Township are invited to learn about local government operations during the Township’s Annual Government Day event. The program includes tours of Township facilities, presentations from the Board of Commissioners, the School Board and the U.S. Census Bureau, and a trivia game.

The Township's Annual Government Day is a free event that allows students ages 6 to 14 the opportunity for a closer look into how their local government works. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. on February 14th at the Ogontz Fire House located at 8215 Old York Road in Elkins Park. The program starts at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 1:00 p.m., including lunch. The agenda includes tours of Ogontz Fire Company, Police Station, Policing Unit 1011 Call Room/Communications Center, E.M.S. Facility, Emergency Operations Center; presentations from the Township Manager, Board of Commissioners, the School Board President; and a We Love Cheltenham trivia game. Interested participants should RSVP for each child by calling 215-379-2233 by Monday, February 10, 2020.

Government Day 2020 introduces a new presentation this year from the Census Bureau on the importance of participating in the 2020 Census. The data collected through the Census provides a picture of the nation and township that helps determine where to build schools, hospitals, and how federal funding is distributed, along with how congressional seats are apportioned. Most importantly, students will learn that participating in the 2020 Census is a civic duty. The founding Fathers thought census data was so important they mandated it as part of the Constitution.  #Cheltenham Counts

The program will conclude with presentation of certificates to all students who participated followed by complimentary lunch at Glenside Memorial Hall located at 185 S. Keswick Avenue in Glenside at 12:15 p.m.  Golden Corral in Wyncote is generously providing lunch for the students attending Government Day.
