Hank Wacker and Ruth Ann Lally honored upon their retirement, as well as with numerous Glenside residents who received community service awards.
 

Cheltenham Township Honors Retiring Staff, the Organizer of Camp William Penn and Historic La Mott Day and Awards Community Service Awards to Residents

On November 20, 2019, the Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners recognized Hank Wacker  and Ruth Ann Lally in honor of their retirement from Cheltenham Township, as well as with numerous residents who received community service awards, along with the creator of the Camp William Penn and Historic La Mott Day event.

Hank Wacker began his career with Cheltenham Township on January 2, 1990, faithfully serving as the Township as a Plumbing Inspector, FOG Inspector, and Sanitary Sewer Superintendent, a position he held until his retirement on October 25, 2019. Wacker was honored and presented with a resolution for his 29 years of dedicated service with Cheltenham Township.

Commissioner Drew Sharkey of Ward 1 presented Community Service Awards to individuals responsible for helping to organize community and special events in the Downtown Glenside Business District. The following people were honored: Arcadia Facilities Team, Laura Baldwin, Dottie Baumgarten, Phil Baumgarten, Nancy Bower, Gina Burke, Kevin Burke Deb Campbell, Amy Chapman, Christopher Cerksi, Joseph Coll, Colleen Coll, Robert Dye, Mary Galbally, Glenside Fire Company, Maureen Haff, Bill Hibbert Nancy Lawrence Hill, Tom Macchi, Conor Mooney, Matt Mundy, Al Regenhard, Terri Schmidt, Warren Schmidt, Lisa Stephens, Joseph Stuckert, Bill Winneberger Deb Winneberger and Stephen Winneberger. The Board of Commissioners presented a resolution to Ruth Ann Lally honoring her upon the occasion of her retirement after more than 29 years of dedicated service with Cheltenham Township as Administrative Assistant/Purchasing Clerk in the Accounting Department.

The Board of Commissioners honored Joyce Werkman with a resolution for her efforts in creating “Camp William Penn and Historic La Mott Day “celebration on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  The leadership and hard work of Werkman resulted in a community event that brought neighbors together with a proclamation honoring Camp William Penn and Historic La Mott Village. Werkman, a Cheltenham Township resident in Wyncote, also serves as the president of Citizens for the Restoration of Historical La Mott, a preservation group that runs the Camp William Penn Museum. Camp William Penn was the country’s first and largest recruiting and training camp for black soldiers during the Civil War.
