A friendly reminder on how to avoid car break-ins

Remember to Lock Your Vehicle to Prevent Break-Ins

The Cheltenham Township Police Department reminds residents that during the warmer weather neighborhoods are more vulnerable to vehicle break-ins. Theft from vehicles is one of the most common crimes in the area, and locking vehicle doors will help prevent residents from becoming victims.

Remember to always lock your vehicle, including when it is parked on your street or in the driveway. Lock all valuables in the trunk or glove box, so that they are out of view. Never leave belongings such as purses, wallets or electronics, change in plain view, even if the car is locked. Thieves will break car windows to get to purses, wallets and other items left in view. Finally remind your neighbors to do the same, because neighborhoods with locked cars are less likely to be targeted.

If you suspect a break-in, or see suspicious behavior; don’t hesitate, just call 911.
