Cheltenham Township Honors Library Board Members and a Therapy Dog Retiring from Service to Cheltenham Township Library System

Elkins Park, PA - The Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners honored board members who served the Cheltenham Township Library Board and Maji the therapy dog with resolutions upon their retirement for service to the Cheltenham Township Library at the March 20th Board of Commissioners meeting.

A resolution was presented to Maji Burns, the therapy dog retiring from ten years of service to Cheltenham’s Library System. Maji is a Belgian Malinois service dog, whose name means “water” in Swahili, faithfully served the Township as a Certified Therapy Dog through Therapy Dogs International (TDI) for the Glenside Free Library. Maji patiently listened to hundreds of young children as they practiced reading aloud and provided a safe place for children to feel comforted as they learned to read. He was a champion of literacy in the Glenside and Wyncote Communities and helped make reading fun and enjoyable for children, while also providing support and guidance.
