June 24: PECO will begin an 8-week natural gas equipment replacement project near Waters Road on June 29.

PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work near Waters Road beginning June 29
On June 29, 2020, PECO will begin work to replace
existing natural gas equipment. Work includes the installation of new underground pipe which is more durable, enhances safety and improves service reliability.

Work will take place in the area of Waters Road from Boncouer Road to Hilldale Road between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and will occur in roadways as well as on sidewalks and potentially on private property. Natural gas services may need to be shut off while new service is installed to private properties. Shut offs may last between four and eight hours.

The work will be performed by Henkels & McCoy, a PECO contractor and they will not need access to the natural gas appliances or equipment inside homes.

Aqua Roadway Restoration Work beginning June 23
On June 23, 2020 Aqua contractor, Caddick Utilities LLC, will begin the roadway restoration work for water main installations at the following locations:

  • New Second Street from Sunnybrook Ave to Lanfair Rd
  • Lanfair Rd from New Second Street to Front St
  • Dewey Rd from Front St to Lanfair Rd
  • Overhill Rd from Sunnybrook Ave to Lanfair Rd
  • Sunnybrook Rd from New Second St to Overhill Rd
  • Brookfield Rd from Sunnybrook Ave to Parkview Rd
  • Elizabeth Rd from Brookfield Rd to Lanfair Rd
  • Normandy Ln from Lanfair Rd to Elizabeth Rd
  • Front St from Parkview Rd to Dewey Rd

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except New Second Street hours of work will be 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and during those hours New Second Street will be closed with a detour in effect. The entire project is anticipated to take approximately four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Aqua Roadway Restoration Work beginning June 22

Beginning on June 22, 2020, Aqua contractor Apcon, Inc. will be performing final roadway restoration on the following streets:


- Humphrey Merry Way from John Russell Circle to Penrose Ave

- Sycamore Ave from Juniper Ave to Juniper Ave

- Whitewood Rd from Spring Ave to Webb Rd

- Hidden Ln from Spring Ave to #7913 Hidden Ln

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.  Apcon anticipates this project will be completed by June 26, 2020 weather permitting.

PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work beginning June 22
Beginning on June 22, 2020, PECO contractor Henkels & McCoy will be replacing existing natural gas equipment at the following locations:

  • Garden Road, from Johns Road to Edgemoor Road
  • Lawnside Road, from Garden Road to Rowland Avenue
  • Rowland Avenue, from N/O Lawnside Road to Johns Road

This work is being performed by PECO in order to enhance safety and improve service reliability.  Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM.  PECO anticipates the natural gas main and service line installation portion of this project will be completed within eight weeks.

PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work for June through mid-August

PECO will be replacing existing natural gas equipment in order to enhance safety and improve service reliability as described below. 

Gas main installation work has begun at the following locations and is expected to continue until the end of June:

  • Brookfield Road from Parkview Road to Andrea Road
  • Ivinetta Road from Johns Road to Parkview Road
  • Parkview Road from Ivinetta Road to Rowland Avenue
  • Rowland Avenue from Parkview Road to Lawnside Road

Gas main installation work is scheduled to begin at the following locations on or about June 1, 2020, and is expected to continue through mid-August:

  • 4th Avenue from Asbury Avenue to N/O High Avenue
  • Asbury Avenue from Coventry Ave to Oak Lane Road
  • High Avenue from 4th Avenue to New Second Street   
  • Oak Lane Road from Asbury Avenue to New Second Street   
  • Richards Avenue from Asbury Avenue to Cul-de-Sac
  • Sunnybrook Avenue from 4th Ave to Oak Lane Road

April 30:

PECO Starts Natural Gas Meter and Underground Piping on May 1, 2020
PECO will be performing inspections of natural gas meters and underground piping to ensure the safety of its customers and employees. Beginning May 1st the  Heath Consultants Inc., a qualified PECO contractor will be in Cheltenham to complete inspections of natural gas facilities. Crews and contractors are following all safety protocols, including wearing additional protective equipment and practicing social distancing. All contractors will have a PECO contractor ID badge. There is no cost for the inspection and it will only take a few minutes to complete. Customers will not experience any interruption to their natural gas service and no indoor work will be performed.

Aqua Utility Construction Starts April 20th and New Second Street will be Closed Weekdays for 20 Weeks
Aqua Pennsylvania begins  utility construction Monday, April 20, through Tuesday, June 30, 2020 on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. closing  New Second Street  between Oak Lane and Cheltenham Avenue in Cheltenham Township. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Oak Lane and Cheltenham Avenue. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PECO  Upgrading Service Outside of Neighborhoods Starting Monday, April 6, 2020
Henkels & McCoy, a qualified PECO contractor completed the natural gas main installation and will begin upgrading services outside homes on the streets listed below starting April 6th, and the work will be completed.  No access to appliances or equipment inside homes is required.  Only necessary outside work will be completed to begin upgrading your service line. Any areas impacted on your property will be repaired, the streets will be repaved, and all areas will be restored to their original condition.

AQUA PA Replacing  Water Mains in Cheltenham with a Closure of New Second Street Starts Feb. 3
Aqua will replace an aging 6 inch cast iron water main as part of an infrastructure improvement project in Montgomery County. Work starts Monday, February 3, 2020 on weekdays, and most construction will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the following streets in Cheltenham, but New Second Street hours of work will be 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and during those hours New Second Street will be closed with a detour in effect.

The new main will increase service reliability, reduce the potential for main breaks and discolored water and improve water flow in the area. The $1.6952,000 project of 8,443' feet of 8 inch ductile iron pipe with the completion expected by the end of May. 

Following the installation of the new water main, there will be a period of time during which the main will be chlorinated and tested before being put into service. During this phase, activity on the job site will be limited. Once testing has been completed, Aqua will transfer each water service and any fire hydrants onto the new main. It is important to note that the trench will be covered with temporary black top at the end of each work day. Once all of the activity described has been completed, permanent restoration will follow in about 30 to 60 days.

Construction will typically take place daily between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Construction on W. Valley Forge will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Access will be provided for emergency, mail and trash services. Residents will have access to their properties but at times will need to enter from a different direction due to changing work zones. Aqua will notify customers 24 hours in advance of any scheduled shutdown, however, as with any construction project, an emergency shutdown might be necessary. If so, Aqua will restore service as soon as possible.

December 30, 2019

PECO Installation of New Underground Pipe in Cheltenham Valley and Keswick Areas beginning January 3:
The work will be done by Henkels & McCoy, and PECO anticipates the natural gas main and service line installation portion of this project will be completed in 20 weeks.Crews may need to temporarily shut off natural gas service for a short period of approximately 4 to 8 hours while installing the new service line to home.

Aqua PA Water Main Replacement with Lane Closures on Greenwood Ave. from December 2, 2019 to May 20, 2020 
Starting Monday, December 2, 2019 through the end of May 2020, work will commence on Greenwood Avenue between Glenside Avenue and Church Road by Caddick to replace a new water main.  Hours of road closure will be 9 am-3 pm, Monday-Friday, during which time detour will be in place.  Work involves installation of a new 8 inch water line.

Starting on Monday, January 6, 2020, for approximately 6 weeks, intermittent work will take place on Greenwood Avenue between Hedgerow Avenue and Church Road.  The first two weeks, January 6-24, will involve the most frequent construction to install new water pipes.  There will be a week of no activity, then several weeks of chlorination testing and tie-ins to homes.

  • Monday, December 2, through the end of May 2020, Greenwood Avenue will be closed and detoured weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between Route 73 (Church Road) and Glenside Avenue. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 73 (Church Road), Washington Lane and Township Line Road; and
  • Monday, December 2, through the end of May 2020, Greenwood Avenue will be reduced to a single lane with flagging weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between Hedgerow Lane and Route 73 (Church Road).

During construction, local access will be maintained through the closure area. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur.
