Commissioner Simon, known to all as Mickey, was elected Commissioner of the Sixth Ward in 2001. He has served several times as President and Vice President of the Board of Commissioners and has chaired a number of times the Building & Zoning, Public Works, Public Affairs, and Finance, Committees, as well as the Pension Board.
A lifelong resident of Cheltenham Township, he was first in his class at Cheltenham High (from which both of his children graduated), graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, and received his law degree from Harvard University. For a number of years, he has been a member of the Business Department at the center city law firm of Montgomery McCracken. Prior to being elected Commissioner, he was Vice Chair of the Economic Development Task Force when the Commercial District Enhancement Plan was adopted, and he started the Cheltenham Concerts in the Park program, which is still presenting five free concerts each summer in Curtis Arboretum.
He is the President of the Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey Regional Office of the American Jewish Committee and serves on its National Board of Governors. He is an Honorary Trustee of Congregation Rodeph Shalom. He has played the trumpet in the Abington Symphony Orchestra for more than 25 years.
