Elected from Ward 4 in November, 2013, Ann L. Rappoport, Ph.D. brings a multifaceted professional repertoire to the Board of Commissioners.
She taught political science, writing, and education as an adjunct professor at Temple University; directed Kids Around Town, a national award-winning civic education program for over ten years; coordinated Gam Yachad, a regional program for adults with developmental disabilities and their families for 22 years, for which she won a Brighter Futures Award from the City of Philadelphia Office of MH/MR; served as a consumer representative on the Health Systems Agency of Southeastern Pennsylvania throughout its decade as a planning body; has published extensively and continues to work as a consultant and freelance writer.
Community work has been a staple in the Rappoport household. Dr. Rappoport led parent organizations – including a local Montessori pre-school, PTOs and UPG during the ’80s-’90s – and also served on Cheltenham School District’s Superintendent Search Committee, the committee for services to exceptional and gifted students, the first Strategic Planning committees, etc. She has been a member of the League of Women Voters, serving on the executive board of A-C-J during the ’70s - ’80s (organizing candidates nights and legislative interviews, inter alia) and more recently as a consultant at the State level. She is a Board member of the Cheltenham Township Adult School.
Commissioner Rappoport grew up in St. Louis, graduated Phi Beta Kappa & Magna cum Laude from Oberlin College, and received her doctorate in political science from Ohio State University. She and her husband, Paul, have resided in Wyncote since 1976. They have three adult daughters (all graduates of CHS) and six grandchildren.
