Commissioner Drew Sharkey was sworn-in to office on January 8, 2008. He is the youngest individual to be sworn into office in Montgomery County’s history. Commissioner Sharkey serves as Chair of the Public Safety and Public Works Committees and is the prior Chair of Public Affairs.
Mr. Sharkey was elected by his peer Commissioners in Montgomery County to the position of Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Association of Township Commissioners, and sits on the Eastern Association of Township Commissioners and Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners Executive Committee. These organizations set legislative goals and then advocate for them in Harrisburg.Commissioner Sharkey is a lifelong resident of Glenside and Cheltenham Township. He worked numerous jobs to help fund his education. He earned a Bachelors’ Degree from Penn State University, a Masters in Public Administration from Villanova University and his law degree from the Widener University School of Law. He is a licensed attorney and practices law in Pennsylvania.
Prior to his election, Mr. Sharkey was a member of the Cheltenham Economic Development Task Force, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Committee, and worked on the Township Main Street program, chairing the Organization and Development Committee. He worked with numerous community members to run the Glenside Street Fair, WinterFest and other activities. Currently, Commissioner Sharkey continues his community service by serving on the Glenside Fire Company Board, the Glenside Patriotic Association, the Custis Woods- Twickenham Civic Association, the Arcadia University Business Advisory Board, the Greater Glenside Chamber of Commerce, the Cheltenham Human Relations Committee, the Penn State Alumni Admissions Council and numerous other committees. Commissioner Sharkey is a member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, located in Glenside.
