Helpful Resources and Links for Seniors
· Cheltenham Only TransNet – The Township covers the transportation cost for residents ages 65 and older to locations within the Township on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. via a partnership with Suburban Transit Network, Inc., and the Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services. In addition to any Township locale, the free shared- ride service includes The Pavilion shopping center in Abington and the Jenkintown-Wyncote Train Station. Riders must be registered with TransNet and schedule trips at least one day in advance. TransNet also offers seniors transportation at other times and destinations at discounted rates. · Aging at Home - A Community Network – All Cheltenham Township seniors are eligible to benefit from a new program to help older adults age with dignity in their homes and communities. The United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey has launched a model, three-year pilot program designed to connect older adults with an array of local services that support their ability to age well at home, such as health screenings, chore assistance, transportation, volunteer placement opportunities and other resources. The Visiting Nurse Association Community Services, Inc., in Abington is one of the coordinating agencies. To get more information for yourself or a loved one, call 215-302-9900.
· La Mott & Rowland Seniors Clubs – Active senior citizen clubs meet regularly at both community centers from September through June and always welcome new members. Club members enjoy a variety of entertainment and special events, including trips, guest speakers, games and more. Fees are $5 annual dues plus $1.50 per meeting for Rowland seniors or $15 annual dues for La Mott seniors.
