Public Meeting: Monday, March 6, 7:30 p.m.
The second of two public meetings to plan for the future of Conklin and Glenside pools will be held on Monday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m., at Curtis Hall, located at 1250 W. Church Road in Wyncote. At this meeting, consultants will present several design options for renovating/rebuilding the pools and seek public comment on the options.
An evaluation of both pools in 2016 determined that they are nearing the end of their useful lives and will require significant capital investments to repair, renovate or rebuild them in the near future.
Conklin Pool was built in the late 1960s, and Glenside Pool was built in
the early 1970s. The public meeting and survey are part of a
township study to more fully assess the conditions of the pools and
associated facilities; assess market trends and community needs; make
recommendations for restoration, renovation and/or rebuilding the pools;
and determine methods to finance the improvements. Completing the study
will help the township qualify for grant funding for pool improvements.
Started in late November 2016, the study is expected to be completed in
June in order to take advantage of grant deadlines. A
professional consulting team consisting of architects and aquatics
professionals is guiding the study along with a steering committee
appointed by the Cheltenham Board of Commissioners consisting of
township officials, residents and pool users. Their proposed design
options were developed from a facility conditions assessment, a public
meeting held on December 6, 2016, a pool satisfaction survey of pool
users from the 2016 season, and several meetings of the steering
Information about the progress of the study will be posted on this page.
