NOTE:  Leaves, twigs, grass clippings and garden debris may always be included together in biodegradable paper bags during any of the scheduled collections. In fact, state law mandates that these materials must be recycled, so Township crews will not accept them with household waste.

Leaf and Garden Debris Collection Routes

The 15 designated routes are identified on the map below.

Leaf Pickup Map

Collection must start by mid October to allow crews enough time to complete four collections -- two for loose leaves and two for bagged leaves -- in every route before the end of December. Leaf collection must be completed before winter weather arrives because leaf vacuums are ineffective in snow and ice.

Early in the program, collection crews may proceed to some routes ahead of schedule. However, each morning crews will return to the route scheduled for collection that day.

The Spring Bagged Leaves Collection Program begins in March and offers three collections in each route. Voluntary grass recycling for those residents who discard grass after mowing will begin in May and run through the summer. Grass, leaves and other garden debris may always be recycled together in biodegradable paper bags. However, leaves, grass and garden debris may not be discarded with regular trash, per Township Ordinance and state law.

Please follow the accompanying guidelines for the most efficient programs.

Loose Leaves

  • Rake leaves to the curb no more than 14 days prior to the scheduled collection day, in accordance with Township Ordinance. Violators will be subject to fines.
  • Rake only leaves; do not include twigs or branches, which may jam the leaf machines.
  • Do not put leaves into the street immediately after a collection.

Note: The loose leaf collection schedule is subject to weather delays. For the latest schedule, call 215-887-6200, ext. 330.

Bagged Leaves

  • Use biodegradable paper bags only. Biodegradable paper bags are sold at the Township Building.
  • Put bagged leaves at the curb just prior to their scheduled collection day.
  • Do not put trash, branches, stones or rocks into the biodegradable paper bags. However, grass clippings, twigs and garden debris may be included with leaves in the biodegradable bags.

Note:  Leaves, twigs, grass clippings and garden debris may always be included together in biodegradable paper bags during any of the scheduled biodegradable paper bag collections. In fact, state law mandates that these materials must be recycled, so Township crews will not accept them with household waste. Residents may also drop off biodegradable paper bags at the Waverly Road Compost Facility on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except holidays. The compost facility is located on Waverly Road between Church Road and Cheltenham Avenue in Laverock. Disposing of large branches requires an appointment for a special collection, which entails a fee.  However, no branch collections will be scheduled during the fall leaf collection program.

Additional Guidelines

  • Never discard leaves, grass, twigs or garden debris with regular trash.
  • Have gardeners cooperate with the collection schedules.
  • Do not park over leaves since heat from a vehicle may ignite them.
  • Never burn leaves or place leaves at the curb anytime after the final collection, as stipulated by Township Ordinance.
