Enforcing Traffic Safety Laws are a very important part of a Police Officer’s duties. Our Police Officers realize that no one likes receiving a traffic citation, but ensuring the public’s safety is our number one concern for our citizens, and the motorists traveling our roadways.
If you do receive a traffic citation for committing a traffic violation, you must do one of the following within 10 days of the issuance of the citation:
PLEAD NOT GUILTY -by notifying the proper Magisterial District Judge in writing, signing the appropriate plea portion on the back of your citation, and by forwarding for collateral an amount equal to the Total Due as specified in ITEM 34 on the citation, plus $7.00 if the offense is charged under the Vehicle Code; or, if the Total Due is not specified, by forwarding the sum of $50.00 as collateral for your appearance at trial.
PLEAD NOT GUILTY -appearing before the Magisterial District Court Judge and posting such collateral for your appearance as the Judge shall require.
OR: Appear before the proper Magisterial District Judge to enter a plea if you cannot afford to pay the Total Due as specified on the citation or the $50.00 collateral.
PLEAD GUILTY- by appearing before the proper District Judge if the total due is not specified.
If a Police Officer issues you a yellow parking violation notice you have five days to respond. The yellow violation notice is a self-addressed envelope that can be used to send in the fine noted for the violation.
Fines for parking violations are as follows:
Handicapped Parking Violation $50.00
Expired Parking Meter $10.00
All other parking violations are $15.00
If you fail to respond to a yellow parking violation notice, a Traffic Citation will be issued and the amount due will be increased as a result of additional required fees.
