Police Volunteers

In addition to their highly visible public safety role, many Cheltenham officers donate their own time to help area residents who need a hand.

For over 10 years, officers have celebrated the holiday season by preparing food baskets for area residents coping with misfortune. The baskets contain a week's worth of groceries donated by officers, local food stores, area businesses residents and Myers Elementary School students who hold an annual food drive. A little something extra, like candy or a small toy, may be included if the household contains children. In lieu of sending holiday cards, officers contribute several hundred dollars each year to the Sunshine Foundation, a local organization that grants the wishes of seriously ill children. Finally, the American Cancer Society, Rainbow Club and other charities can count on willing volunteers in the department to help raise money or provide other assistance.

While protecting the public safety is their paramount mission, the men and women of the Cheltenham Police Department also offer their individual compassion and support as friends, neighbors and resources for the community.
