NEIGHBORHOOD ALERTS PROGRAM
In an effort raise public awareness of crime, and to reduce crime in our community, the Cheltenham Police Department has instituted a Neighborhood Alerts Program. The program is designed to get the word out to residents about a particular problem or crime in the Township. The goal of the Neighborhood Alert Program is to raise public awareness about a particular problem, with the hope that when residents view these alerts, they will call to report similar suspicious activity to the Police. The program works like this. If the Police think there is a problem or an increase in criminal activity in a particular section of the Township, the Police Department will post an Alert on our Webpage to a particular section of the community outlining the problem. A similar alert program has been used in the Melrose Park section of the Township for the past few years and the Police Department is expanding these alerts to all Township residents. The purpose of the Neighborhood Alert Program is to keep the community informed about activity in their neighborhood, with the hope that they will take steps to avoid becoming victimized. For the Police Department to be most effective, we need the public's help and support.
