First responders who rescued a driver trapped in an overturned vehicle were honored by the Board of Commissioners.
The Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners honors the first responders who rescued a driver trapped in an overturned vehicle teetering on an embankment in May 2017. Because pressure from the vehicle posed an immediate life-threatening danger to the driver, the police officers opted to lift the vehicle manually so the paramedic could pull the driver to safety rather than wait for fire department extrication equipment, despite the danger the unsecured vehicle posed to their own safety. Heroism Commendations were presented to Paramedic Joshua Williams (standing, second from left), Officer Christopher Gallagher, (standing, third from left), Officer Ryan Ewald (standing, fourth from left) and (seated, left to right) Sgt. Edward Baskin, Retired Officer Christopher Poirier, Officer Donald Baldwin and Officer Casey Smith. Commissioners (left to right) Daniel B. Norris, Irv Brockington, Ann L. Rappoport, Baron B. Holland, Brad M. Pransky, Drew Sharkey, and Morton J. Simon, Jr., made the presentations during a recent meeting of the board of commissioners at Curtis Hall in Wyncote.
