Cheltenham PD Part of Major Drug Bust

A multi-agency investigation involving the Cheltenham Township Police Department (CTPD) recently culminated in the arrest of three suspected drug traffickers – two from Philadelphia and one from New York – and the seizure of about a kilo of fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opiod sometimes mixed with heroin that is deadly in very small quantities. The amount seized would be enough to kill up to 500,000 people.

During the investigation, members of CTPD worked with the Montgomery County Detective Bureau Narcotics Team, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Local Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration (Philadelphia Division), the Philadelphia Police Department’s IDIS Narcotics Unit, the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Intelligence Center and the United States Marshal Service. “Teamwork among the agencies was critical to the success of the operation,” said Cheltenham Police Chief John Frye.

All three defendants have been charged with multiple offenses and are currently awaiting trial in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
