INSIDE OUT ART COMES TO GLENSIDE

Ten popular masterpieces will adorn the Glenside Commercial District from mid September until early December, thanks to the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Inside Out program.
Great art is another reason to visit Downtown Glenside in Cheltenham Township this fall. Thanks to Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Inside Out program, ten high-quality reproductions of popular masterpieces will adorn the business district from September 15th until early December. The specific artworks, artists and their locations appear below.

This is the museum’s third year of the Inside Out program, generously supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. “Inside Out is an invitation to people throughout the region to share in the beauty of our collections where they live,” said Timothy Rub, The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s George D. Widener Director and Chief Executive Officer. “By bringing the museum’s collections to their sidewalks and storefronts, we hope that it will inspire people to think about the role that art can play in their daily lives. The museum’s treasures are for everyone to enjoy.”

Chosen for its great location and lively art scene, Glenside – along with the rest of Cheltenham Township – will applaud Inside Out during the Downtown Glenside Food Fest on Thursday, September 28th (rain date September 29th). The annual food fest features delicious treats from wonderful local eateries as well as a variety of food trucks from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wesley Plaza off Easton Road and on Glenside Avenue between Easton Road and New Street. But at 7:00 p.m., the focus will shift to the SEPTA underpass on Easton Road next to the Glenside Train Station where earlier this year Arcadia University students and renowned artist David Guinn created a beautiful outdoor mural. Museum representatives and township officials will join Arcadia in a lighting ceremony for the mural that will include a special salute to Inside Out.

“I’m really delighted to welcome Inside Out to Glenside,” said Drew Sharkey, Cheltenham Township Commissioner representing Glenside. “This fantastic artwork, along with the great murals and other permanent art decorating our neighborhood, spotlights what a vibrant and beautiful community we have.”
Residents inspired to explore more art can tour the Philadelphia Museum of Art for free on October 13th - 15th. They just need to tell the staff at any admission desk that they are from an Inside Out community.

More details about the program are available at www.PhilaMuseum.org/exhibitions/863.html and from an “Art Inside Out” app, available for iPhone and Android.
