Police Officer Entry Positions

 

 

Cheltenham Township is proud of our diverse workforce whose skills and talents are spread across three major departments: Emergency Medical Services, Police Department and the Public Works Department. Others work in Administration as Managers, Directors, Department Heads and Key Personnel and as support personnel in positions necessary to continually provide professional quality service in assisting Township residents and the business community.

Cheltenham Township has approximately 400 employees, including of full-time, permanent part-time and per diem personnel. In addition, we have a contingent of seasonal help who perform a variety of services, including assisting Township Departments with year-round special programs and events.

To attract the best possible candidates, the Township offers a more-than-competitive employee benefits program. Full-time staff are rewarded for their service with a Health and Welfare Benefits Program, including coverage for eligible dependents, vacation, holidays, sick days and longevity pay. Participation in several volunteer program are possible through payroll deductions.

Police Officer Entry Positions

Entry level Police Officer positions are filled by candidates from a certified list, which is in effect for 18 months.

Preparation for establishing the next certified list of eligible candidates will not begin before June 2005.  A formal announcement that states the date, time and location of the examination will be administered will appear on this website.

The announcement will also be posted in all Township facilities, School District, fire houses and libraries; the Montgomery County newspapers, the Philadelphia Inquirer and Tribune; Cheltenham Township Cable Access Channel 42; and several law enforcement publications and bulletins. Representatives of the Cheltenham Township Police Department will be available in local shopping malls with information about the examination and to recruit applicants.

NO APPLICATIONS are available and NO RESUMES will be accepted until the preparation for the next certified list commences.

At that time, applicants interested in an entry level Police Officer position must submit a completed examination registration form accompanied by the required fee, in order to be admitted to the Police Civil Service Examination.
