Commercial Parking Permit Program

Beginning March 1, people who work in Cheltenham Township could find parking a little easier thanks to a new parking permit program. That's when employees of businesses within the township can purchase permits to park in 12-hour parking spaces within municipal parking lots. The permits, which are valid from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, eliminate the need for feeding the meters, when they are displayed in the rear window of the vehicle.

Cheltenham's Main Street Manager, said, "The township is diligently trying to meet the needs of our business community. The permit program will help some of our businesses simplify their employees' parking situation."

Cost of the permit will be prorated annually, so it depends on when it's purchased. On March 1, a permit valid throughout 2000 will cost $164. Purchasers must present a recent pay stub to prove their employment in the township as well as a current driver's license and proof of vehicle ownership. The permits can be purchased between 8:30 a.m. and noon and 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Public Works Office in the Township Administration Building, located at 8230 Old York Road in Elkins Park.

Quantities are limited; permits will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. For more information on the parking permit program, contact the Main Street Manager at 215-887-1000, ext. 113.
