Cheltenham Township Free Wireless Internet Sites

In 2005 Cheltenham leapt into the technology revolution by launching wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) hotspots at several locations across the Township. The hotspots enable anyone with an electronic device equipped with wireless capabilities to access the Internet for free. No codes or passwords are required.

The Commissioners introduced Wi-Fi service as part of their continuing mission to provide residents with innovative, cutting-edge programs when practical. So many people today rely on their computers, cell phones and other devices to stay in touch with work, school, family and friends. Wi-Fi enables residents to enjoy recreation at Township pools and parks without sacrificing that connection. The Township's four libraries have also launched their own Wi-Fi opportunities.

During pool season, both Conklin Pool, at Church and Yew Roads in Cheltenham, and Glenside Pool, at Keswick Avenue and Waverly Road in Glenside, are hotspots. In Glenside the hotspot extends to much of nearby Renninger Park, which includes athletic fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and a playground. When pool season ends, Conklin's hotspot relocates to Griffin Field on Tookany Creek Parkway, which encompasses a ball field, playground, and basketball and tennis courts.

Wall Park, located on Church Road and Wall Park Drive in Elkins Park, also became a year-round hotspot in 2005. The park complex includes an impressive new playground, a skate park, the historic Richard Wall House Museum and lighted tennis courts, basketball courts and athletic fields.

The final hotspot is the LaMott Community Center and Free Library, at Willow and Sycamore Avenues in LaMott. The Board of Commissioners deliberately located the hotspots in the east, west and central areas of the community to benefit the most residents possible.
