Police Alert: Theft from Autos

In December, the Board of Commissioners passed a balanced budget for 2010 of just under $37 million. The Commissioners eliminated almost $905,500 in spending from the budget first proposed in October 2009, including cutting some pay raises and eliminating employee positions. A summary of the 2010 general fund budget is available online.

Proposals for three major developments in the community are currently or soon to be in the zoning or subdivision/land development review process:

• Ashbourne Country Club, Ashbourne and Oak Lane Road, Cheltenham.  NOTE: The February 22, 2010 Planning Commission meeting will feature the proposed development of the Ashbourne Country Club. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Curtis Hall, 1250 W. Church Road in Wyncote.

• 1777 E. Willow Grove Avenue in Laverock. The Township's Consultant developed a Concept Plan.

• Jenkintown-Wyncote Train Station Parking Garage. On January 13, SEPTA presented an update the proposed parking garage and improvements along with the parking demand study. Community members also made a presentation.

Meeting Location Changes

 The Public Affairs Committee, Public Safety Committee and Building and Zoning Committee meetings on the first Wednesdays of the month will be also held at Curtis Hall from January through June 2010.

● Video documentary about Camp William Penn and the U.S. Colored Troops that trained there on Feb. 11.

● Mlanjeni’s Magical Theater African stories with a beat on Feb 24

● Elkins Park Middle School tell the history of the Underground Railroad and the Cheltenham Township residents who fought to end slavery on Feb. 27.

● Display of slavery artifacts and Jim Crow memorabilia on March 6 (rescheduled for March due to February snow).
